Round 9: Zob Ahan is upset by Orthodox

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The game between third ranked Iranian Zob Ahan (3-2) and fifth ranked Jordanian Orthodox (3-3) was the most important one in the last round on Thursday night. Zob Ahan was defeated by Orthodox in a tough game in Amman 82-86. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zob Ahan. Orthodox looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Darrin Dorsey (188-1987, college: DWU, agency: Diamond Sports) who scored 33 points (!!!) and 6 assists. His fellow American import power forward Brandon Peterson (203-1990, college: Arkansas St., agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Mohammad Hassanzadeh (203-1990) who recorded 19 points and 8 rebounds. Orthodox moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Al-Manama and Kazma. Zob Ahan at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Al Riyadi.
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Riyadh. Third ranked Saudi Arabian Al Hilal faced second-best UAE Shabab Al Ahli. Host Al Hilal (5-1) defeated guests from Dubai (4-2) 81-72. It was a key game for the second position in the league. It was a good game for American power forward Clinton Chapman (208-1989, college: Texas, agency: Diamond Sports) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Mohammed Alsuwailem contributed with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks for the winners. American Nick Minnerath (207-1988, college: Detroit) answered with 26 points and 6 rebounds for Shabab Al Ahli. Al Hilal have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Saudi Arabian champion moved-up to second place. Defending UAE champion Shabab Al Ahli dropped to the third position with two games lost.
Kuwaiti undefeated leader Kuwait delivered the sixth consecutive victory on Tuesday night. This time they crushed 6th ranked Saudi Arabian Al Nassr (2-4) 101-70 in Riyadh. Jacob Pullen stepped up and scored 19 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. The best for the losing side was Marcus Thomas with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Undefeated Kuwait (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending Kuwaiti champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 6 victories in a row. Loser Al Nassr keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Al Naft.

Other games of round 9 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Kazma defeated Al Bashaer in Kuwait City 90-74. Al-Manama beat Al Sadd at home 98-86. Gorgan won against Al Naft on the opponent's court 101-91.
The best stats of 9th round was 32 points by Vander Blue of Al Sadd.

Al Bashaer - Kazma 74-90

There was no surprise when bottom-ranked Omani Al Bashaer (0-6) was defeated at home by fifth ranked Kuwaiti Kazma (3-3) 90-74 on Monday. Kazma dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Al Bashaer's 42. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Tunisian center Salah Mejri (217-1986) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and American guard Shane Rector (188-1994, college: Utah St.) chipped in 18 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Basam Al-busaidi with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and center Mahmood Al-Souli (203-1993) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kazma moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Al-Manama and Orthodox. Defending Omani champion Al Bashaer still closes the standings with six games lost.

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Bahrain Al-Manama (3-3) defeated at home 7th ranked Qatari Al Sadd (1-5) 98-86 on Tuesday. Al-Manama looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American Lamont Jones (183-1990, college: Iona, agency: Diamond Sports) stepped up and scored 25 points and 9 assists for the winners and his fellow American import swingman Elijah Robinson (200-1995, college: Emmanuel, GA) chipped in 19 points. Robinson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Al-Manama's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gorgan outrebounded Al Naft 40-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Behnam Yakhchali (196-1995, agency: BIG) stepped up and scored 29 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Mohammad Jamshidi (199-1991, agency: BIG) chipped in 25 points and 7 assists. Five Gorgan players scored in double figures.
